Communication Styles: What Are They and How Do They
Contribute to Workplace Success?
T.E.A.M. Communication Styles® is a model that helps illuminate different ways people prefer to communicate and how these differences, if not attended to, can lead to confusion and conflict. The strength of T.E.A.M. is that it is a simple yet powerful model.
It is based on only four styles and how this combination allows for a wide range of differences, while keeping it conceptually simple. The assessment mirrors this by only having 12 questions.
By understanding these differences, people come to see how they may be misinterpreting the actions and communication of others. In addition, they see how their actions and communication may be confusing or irritating to others. When we each speak from our own context, we often miss connecting with others who have different preferences.
The key to this program’s success is that it moves beyond awareness and understanding. It focuses on what people can do with this knowledge to be more effective in the workplace. The program reviews practical steps that build strong work relationships with colleagues, direct reports, supervisors, and/or customers. Beyond this, it helps trainers understand their client's communication styles and then use this information to help them teach.
